Pure Encapsulations Vitamin D3 (120 Capsules; 125 mcg per capsule; 5,000 IU)
What Does Vitamin D3 do for the Body?
- Bone Health: Vitamin D3 supports calcium absorption and retention to support optimal bone health.*
- Cellular Health: Promotes colon, breast, and prostate health by supporting healthy cellular function.*
- Immune Support: Binds to receptors on immune cells, including lymphocytes and macrophages, supporting healthy immune function.*
Vitamin D promotes intestinal calcium and phosphorous absorption and reduces urinary calcium loss, essential mechanisms for maintaining proper calcium levels in the body and for healthy bone composition.
Vitamin D supports cardiovascular function in some individuals, which may be attributed to its effect on calcium metabolism or possibly by helping to maintain healthy plasma renin function.
A role for vitamin D in supporting colon health by promoting healthy cellular function has also been suggested.
Furthermore, vitamin D is believed to provide general cellular support potential, including for the breast and prostate, in part by helping to maintain healthy angiogenesis balance, supporting immune cell activity, and maintaining healthy cell metabolism.
Vitamin D’s role in immune health has long been established; vitamin D receptors are found on a number of immune cells, including lymphocytes and macrophages, supporting healthy immune cell activation.*
Vitamin D and Respiratory Infection
According to biomedical science researcher and nutritional health expert, Dr. Rhonda Patrick, there is plenty of evidence that supports that Vitamin D helps protect the body against respiratory infection:
A ton of evidence suggests that vitamin D is protective against respiratory tract infections. Data from 25 randomized controlled trials from around the world demonstrate that vitamin D supplementation reduced the risk of acute respiratory infection by more than 50 percent, especially in people with low baseline vitamin D levels.
Dr. Rhonda Patrick also offers that:
Supplemental vitamin D might be a viable means to increase our vitamin D to sufficient levels and potentially reduce the risk of complications associated with COVID-19.
Other Vitamin D Benefits
Vitamin D is necessary to maintain strong bones. It helps the body absorb calcium, one of most important building blocks of healthy bones. Vitamin D is also required for healthy movement of muscles, nerve signaling, and strengthens the immune system to fight off bacteria and viruses.
